Write a short rhyming poem in seconds. Choose a name, a noun and two adjectives and we will write a quick poem for you.
A quick poem is not a classical form with fixed rules — it is a short, rhyming, stand-alone poem you can finish in a few minutes. Most quick poems land between four and twelve lines, rhyme in easy pairs (AA BB) or an alternating pattern (ABAB), and keep to one subject: a person, a place, an animal or a moment. Because nothing is fixed, the quick poem is the best starting point for anyone who has never finished a poem before. This generator builds an eight-line rhyming version from four things you type: a name, a noun, and two adjectives.
The reason a short rhyming form works as a beginner's form is compression. Four words have to carry the whole poem, so every line has a job. When you later move on to a sonnet or a villanelle, you will already know what it feels like to make a line earn its place.
Here is a quick poem built from the words Alice, moon, silver and quiet:
Silver moon, quiet and true,
I thought of a rhyme for Alice and you.
A quiet moon and a silver song,
To carry us early all day long.
Notice what the four words are doing. Moon is the subject — the thing the poem is about. Silver and quiet are the colours and atmosphere. Alice is the address: the poem is spoken to someone. Everything else in those lines is joining word-work: and true, and you, to carry us. That is the proportion to aim for in your own first draft — roughly half concrete words from you, half connective language that keeps the rhyme and the metre standing up.
This page composes an eight-line rhyming poem. It takes the name, the noun and the two adjectives you type and uses them as the poem's content words; every other word comes from the built-in word lists that ship with the page (nouns, verbs, adverbs and time words) to hold the rhyme and the rhythm. The rhyme runs in pairs. The selection is randomised, so pressing the button again gives you a different poem from the same four words.
This is a template and word-list engine, not an AI model. The word lists, the rhyme table and the templates are all part of the page, and every calculation happens in your browser. Nothing you type is sent to us, stored on a server, or used to train anything — we never receive it at all. There is no account, no sign-up and no cookie set by the generator itself. The full description is in our Terms of Use.
Copyright: you keep all rights in the words you type and in the poem this page produces. Print it, post it, publish it, perform it, adapt it, sell it — it is yours, and we claim no ownership over your output. Your input: the text you type stays in the page in your browser, is used only to build the poem you asked for, and is never transmitted, logged or shared. Clearing the form or closing the tab removes it. Accuracy: the syllable counts, rhymes and metres here are approximations produced by a program, so treat the result as a first draft and check anything you intend to publish or submit for assessment.
This page carries no advertising inside the poetry generator. There are no ads next to the input fields, none beside the Write me a poem button, and none inside the poem itself, so a mis-tap while writing is impossible. If we ever place a unit here it will sit in the single fixed editorial slot at the foot of the page, separated from the poem output by well over 1,200 characters of editorial text — the policy is set out on our Advertising page.
